Weekend Escape

This three day jaunt takes you out of the hustle and bustle of Beirut to parts of Lebanon seldom seen. Meandering up the coast we feast on fresh fish in picturesque restaurants perched above the glistening Mediterranean, while taking in the stunning coastal scenery. Inland, we head to the mountainous regions, sampling the different seasonal delights, appreciate the fertility of the land and a simpler existence. However, as well as merely eating the wonderful and varied cuisines on offer, this Weekend Escape takes you under the skin of Lebanon. Away from the tourist hubs, you’ll be shown the age old processes behind preparing a Lebanese feast, whether it be baking bread on a hot saj, the traditional art of butchering, or harvesting wild za’atar by hand.

Annual arak distillation in Baakafra at St. Charbel's birth home where he was born and raised. His home has now been turned into a monastery. We had the pleasure of dinning with the priests over a heaping spread of humble Lebanese food while taking part in the making of arak. #food #traditions #travel #lebanon #monastery
